A member of the National Security team who was part of the team deployed to monitor the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election has revealed that prior to joining the security agency he sold mobile phones. Bright Ernest Akomea better known as ‘Double’ says he applied to join the National Security Council when he heard about an ongoing recruitment in 2017 and subsequently got enrolled.
He made this revelation when he appeared before the Short Commission Tuesday. “I used to sell mobile phones at Circle. In 2017 I heard the National Security was undertaking a recruitment exercise, so I applied to join,” he told the Commission in Twi.
Double who has been working with the NSC for almost two years told the Commission that he went through 3-weeks training at Asutuare before his enrollment. “We were taught how to read maps, talk on GoTa phones, combat and small weapon training.” According to Double, he received training for basic weapon handling, crowd control as well as handling pressure on the job.
He also revealed that he stayed in Togo from 2001 to 2005 and also he was once a polling station Chairman for the ruling NPP. Double’s name first came up at the Commission when Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George mentioned him as one of the operatives who opened fire at a crowd at the La Bawaleshie Presby School.
