Dunkwa Offin, Upper Denkyira East, Motorists and residents along the crucial Atechem Main Road, stretching from the Y Junction to the Lighthouse Junction in Dunkwa Offin, are experiencing welcome relief as significant reshaping works transform the previously challenging stretch. This vital infrastructure project, bringing smoother passage and improved safety, is being credited to the collaborative efforts of local leaders.

The reshaping work, currently in progress, involves extensive grading, leveling, and compaction of the road surface, along with improvements to drainage channels. This intervention addresses the deep potholes, uneven surfaces, and erosion issues that had plagued the road, causing traffic congestion, vehicle damage, and safety hazards, especially during the rainy season.

Leadership Driving Development:
The project is a direct result of persistent advocacy and coordinated action spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. George Anane Coleman.

Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah MP: Recognized for her proactive approach, Hon. Ankomah consistently highlighted the deplorable state of the Atechem Main Road as a major concern affecting her constituents’ livelihoods and safety. Her relentless pressure on relevant authorities at the regional and national levels was instrumental in securing the resources and approval for this essential reshaping exercise. Crucially, she has confirmed that this reshaping is an interim measure. Hon. Ankomah is actively pursuing the next critical step: securing government approval and funding for the complete asphalt overlay of the entire road. She views the reshaping as foundational work paving the way for the ultimate goal of a durable, modern asphalt surface.

Hon. George Anane Coleman (MCE): Working hand-in-hand with the MP, the MCE, Hon. Coleman, played a pivotal role in mobilizing the municipal machinery for the project’s swift implementation. His office oversaw the planning, contractor mobilization, and on-ground supervision to ensure the reshaping works commenced promptly and are being executed effectively within the municipality.

Community Impact:
The ongoing work is already yielding positive results:

Smoother Vehicle Movement: Reduced bumpiness and fewer obstacles are leading to faster and less stressful commutes.

Reduced Vehicle Damage: Less wear and tear on vehicles translates to lower maintenance costs for drivers and transport operators.

Enhanced Safety: Improved visibility and a more predictable road surface contribute to safer conditions for all road users.

Economic Boost: Easier access for goods and people stimulates local businesses and market activities.

“We are grateful for the attention finally given to this road,” shared Kofi Mensah, a regular driver on the route. “The reshaping has made a noticeable difference already. We can move much easier now, and it’s safer. We fully support our MP and MCE in their push to get the asphalt done – that’s the real solution we need for the long term.”

The Road Ahead:
While the reshaping brings immediate and significant improvements, both Hon. Emelia Ankomah and Hon. George Anane Coleman emphasize that the ultimate objective remains securing government approval for the comprehensive asphalting of the Atechem Main Road. The successful completion of this reshaping phase is seen as a critical demonstration of the road’s importance and the constituency’s need, strengthening the case for the major asphalt investment.

The people of Dunkwa Offin and users of the Atechem Main Road express their appreciation to Hon. Lawyer Emelia Ankomah, MP, and Hon. George Anane Coleman, MCE, for their dedicated efforts in initiating this vital infrastructure upgrade and for their continued commitment to securing a permanent asphalt solution for this key artery.
